Positively Plaid

When I think of cold weather, nothing seems more appealing than curling up in plaid and flannel (for comfort purposes). However, it can be difficult to look cute in this pattern without seeming like an out of place lumber jack. Experimenting with prints can be fun and pulled off well, when done in the right way.

Pairing a bright and energetic pattern with a subtle neutral like I did with this J.Crew plaid shirt (similar) and black maxi dress (found on HauteLook, they have great everyday steals!) makes for a great preppy and bright look while still remaining casual and relaxed.

Having such a bright color on top, and it being slightly colder out, I paired my outfit with black wedge booties. By hiking my dress up in a tight knot just above my ankle, my booties became a focal another point instead of getting lost in the material. The knot also created a tighter silhouette to enhance curves (since we petite's can get lost in clothing at times) and off-set the more shapeless button up.

Because of the vivid print, I downsized my accessories, opted for lipstick in the same color group and wore a simple gold ring.

Plaid is no longer just for lumber jackers!
