Glamplaza On Trend

Ponchos, capes, and statement pieces are a few of my favorite trends this season. Glamplaza is definitely all over these trends. And the best part is all their stuff is extremely affordable. Here's how I styled one of their poncho/cape like shirts and statement necklaces.

These Steve Madden babes were the first heels I ever fell in love with that weren't all black. My mom surprised me with them for Valentines Day my Junior Year of College (4 years ago!)

Ok, I am in LOVE with this statement necklace. Talk about unique and gorgeous! Glamplaza is definitely my new go to for statement pieces, they're selection is amazeballs!

I layered my Glamplaza shirt over a plain long sleeve shirt for some extra warmth amidst this freezing weather.

If you haven't checked out Glamplaza yet, you definitely need to! Also, be sure to check out their Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. You never know what surprises they'll be sharing on them.

PS - of course the first thing that happened to me when I walked outside to take these pictures was a giant gust of wind blowing snow all over me

Stay warm in this polar vortex round 2 friends!

Aztec Glam

My friend Jonny needed a model for a shoot of his and I was more than happy to help out. He allowed me to pick out my own outfit so my first stop to shop was Envy in Evanston, IL. As per usual, the girls there helped me find the perfect look! Now that I've gotten the pictures from him, I realize how much I loved my outfit and had to share :)

One of my favorite parts of this look is the aztec print crop top. I thought it was a nice change from the typical aztec sweaters and cardigans out there. Also, combing pieces that are of all different textures and prints (velvet, aztec and jean) makes an outfit look more complex, adding a bit of flare. Everything except my shoes can be found at Envy, look at previous posts for more info on how to get pieces from their fab store (Katie and I love it). Enjoy your weekend all!

Room Reflections

Since moving back home from college, I have been in a weird transition period. Being put back into my child hood home after being on my own for four years has been..errr...strange..to say the least. Although I called this bedroom home for 18 years, coming back to it felt awkward and as if I were living in the past. To make it more my own again, I decided to do a little re-decorating. I created a vision around some of my old furniture and wall colors and switched out accents to make it more me, the me I am now. I love how a nautical theme can feel fresh and warm, so I used coral and navy blue for my vision in this upgrade.

I brought in some mirrored furniture to open up the room a bit (it was really the only investment I made in this upgrade). I feel it's nice to not have all of your furnishings match and have the exact same style as to create uniqueness.

On my desk, I displayed a few of my favorite accessories, that I often use, as decor pieces. (and for easy accessibility for when I run out of the house in a hurry)

I found this chair (a darker more worn out brown wood than it is pictured here) and reupholstered and painted it white to match my nautical coral and blue theme. I added a small back pillow for added comfort (thanks to Kate Spades lovely nautical accent pieces I discovered back when I was at school)

I kept the theme going to my night stand and Bed. The print used on my duvet feels fun and ties in my blue accent wall. I decided on an accent wall to add dimension to my room. Having all four walls be that dark would have made it seem like a cave (and seriously would've made it hard to get out of bed in the morning). However, having them all stay grey would've be so bland. A compromise of leaving the grey and painting the blue gave me the best of both worlds.

My head board doesn't quite reach above my pillows, so I created an illusion of a longer headboard by using canvas squares that I stapled fabric to. It tied into my color theme and elongated my bed frame.

As for extra storage, I doubled my dresser as a place to keep clothing and as consul for my TV. To make it more personal (since I can't get enough of taking pictures) I framed it in original photos I had taken and added more mirrors as accents.

Because I didn't have a terribly large budget, I worked around a lot of what I already had (using picture frames and accessories I had at college) and created elements like my chair and headboard that I didn't have to invest too much money in. Although it's still a work in progress, It was a simple quick fix that drastically changed the look and feel of my space.

January 17, 2014

Happy Friday all! I finally made it back home to Chicago last night and this cold weather has definitely bummed me out. To ease my sorrows, and kick the weekend off, I decided to share one of my favorite wintery drinks that is sure to warm you up! The Frostbite Martini (or as I call it Frostbitini) is just as delicious as it is perfect for the season. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

4 oz. Sierra Mist Natural
1.5 oz. Coconut Vodka
1.5 oz. Blue Curacao
1.5 oz. Pineapple Juice
Pure Cane Sugar
2 Slices of Fresh Pineapple

Serving size: 2 martini glasses (vary the ingredients for your desired serving size)

Let's get started!

Rim the Glasses with Sugar

1.     Cut a slit at the point of the fresh pineapple

2. Pour the pure cane sugar on a plate in the shape of a circle

3. Where the pineapple is split, rub the end around the rim of each glass

4.  Turn the glass upside down and push it into the sugar on the plate; twist it a little to ensure the sugar sticks to the rim

When its rimmed the glasses should look like this:

Mix the Drink

1.     Put ice cubes into your drink shaker

2.    Pour 1.5 oz. (about one shot) of coconut vodka into a shot glass, then pour that shot in to the shaker

3.   Pour 1.5 oz. of blue curacao into the shot glass, then pour that shot in to the shaker

4.  Pour 1.5 oz. of pineapple juice into the shot glass, then pour that in to the shaker

5. Put the top on to the shaker and shake it to mix the ingredients together

6.  Pour the contents from the shaker in to the martini glasses, making sure the contents are evenly distributed

7.  Top off the rest of the glasses with the Sierra Mist Natural

8.  For garnishment purposes and to add some extra flare to your glasses, add the fresh pineapple to the side of the glass

9. Drink and enjoy!

I know I will be needing a few of these to get through the rest of winter, let us know what you think if you decided to give it a try!
