For The Sake Of Fashion

Today we're taking a quick break from our usual outfit/beauty/food posts to talk to you about this amazing charity fashion show. The event is called For The Sake Of Fashion and will be held on March 8, 2014 [if you are in the Chicagoland area this is a must attend event!]. Our fellow fashion + lifestyle blogger Alex from Street Style Chi and Ford Models are the beauties behind this Runway Show Benefit. ALL proceeds benefit UNICEF.

We know that this night will be filled with fabulous fashion, philanthropy and fun. Last year there were over 350 attendees and it raised thousands of dollars for charity. You can help make this years runway show benefit even more amazing than last years.

All of the information about this event can be found below as well as a few snapshots from last years gorgeous and amazing event! If you have any further questions please feel free to ask us - pleasantlypetiteblog@gmail.com.

Make it a great day!

A Pop Of Floral

This past weekend I traveled to New York to spend my boyfriend Matts birthday with him. We went to Tao in the city for dinner with some close friends and it was delicious! I loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and its beautiful decor.

I kept my outfit simple with a peplum top from BCBG Max Azria (that I may or may not have stolen from my moms closet), skinny jeans, and booties. I added the floral belt to give my look just enough pizzaz. Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend :).

PS - Matt stepped in for Katie as photographer and took this role very seriously. He had me laughing the whole time (as you can tell from the pictures)!

Denim Daze

Happy Friday!! This week has been super hectic for me because I leave for Italy tonight!! I could not be more excited seeing as I've never been before. This look was inspired by the warmer weather there. I can't wait to enjoy it after this Chicago Winter!

Although denim on denim isn't everyone's thing, sometimes it's nice to utilize outfit pieces made of the same material. I'm not much one to wear the same shade of denim on top and bottom, so I usually opt for a more chambray shirt and dark denim cord combination. Before running errands this past weekend, I spiced up this outfit with a faux fur plaid vest (seeing as that it was FREEZING out) to help give it some more flair. With the abundance of snowy days this winter, I like to dress in tons of layers to stay warm and it was the perfect piece to offset the industrial look of my denim pieces.

Petite tip: When looking for perfect skinny jean, (since most end up over our toes) try a capri jean or ankle length style. Even though it may be a capri or shorter on a taller person, sometimes these styles may hit us in the perfect place.

Healthy Hair Care

Happy Hump Dayyyyy! Today we're talking hair care. The worst decision I ever made for my hair was getting extensions senior year of college. Although I only had them for 3 months, it has taken almost 2 years to get my hair back to normal again. They not only ripped out & stripped my hair severely damaging it, they also majorly thinned it out. I was determined to find a way to revive my hair.  Here's how I did it:

I love love love all the products made by Organix. Within the first couple of washes with this brand I could feel the start of an improvement in the way my hair felt. A helpful tip: its good to switch up what you wash your hair because your hair gets used to the products. This minimizes the positives its done for you. I currently am using to their coconut milk line but I've tried several of their different lines and loved them all. (plus their products are safe to use my color treated hair!)

Most people do (or should) take vitamins to keep their body healthy. Biotin is a vitamin specifically meant for your hair and nails. It strengthens your hair follicles and encourages new growth. After about 4-6 months of taking Biotin every day, I noticed the roots and new growth of my hair was fuller and stronger.

I've used both moroccan oil and argan oil on my damp hair before styling it. While I had great results with both, I tend to use this argan oil spray more.  I simply spray it on my damp hair (about 3-4 times in different spots) prior to styling. This adds extra shine and also protects it from heat damage.

Its good to give your hair a break from constant heat from blow drying, straightening, and curling. Unfortunately for me, I have very curly & frizzy hair. Letting it air dry usually results in an unruly afro (lol). Fekkai summer hair beach waves is the only product i've found that styles my hair in a pretty beach wavy look in a weightless effortless way. I even use it in the summer when at the beach or lounging by the pool so my hair still looks good after a dip in the pool/lake/ocean.

Coconut oil is great for revitalizing your hair and skin. At least once a month, if not twice, I deep condition my hair naturally with it. At first, since the damage to my hair was so bad, I would wash my hair with shampoo, then instead of using conditioner I would use coconut oil, put a shower cap over my hair and sleep with it in all night. Then in the morning wash it out with a little bit of shampoo (still not putting any conditioner in my hair). Now, I will put the coconut oil in, sit with it wrapped in a shower cap for about 45-60 minutes and then rinse it out with a little bit of shampoo. Your hair will feel silky smooth after this natural deep conditioning treatment.

Did you know that if you use a regular hair brush after you get out of the shower on your wet hair, you are actually causing damage and breaking your hair? I recently found this out and was shocked. I was never a fan of wide toothed combs so being introduced to the wetbrush was a life savor. The way it is designed is to act like a wide toothed comb in the body of a brush. Its a miracle worker at detangling hair without causing damage. I even take a mini one around with me to the pool and the beach for detangling purposes.

Hope my hair care tips help you bring your hair back to life!

Polar Vortex Celfie + Winner

I've officially decided that I am over this snow! This winter is the worst we've had in over 25 years. However, it didn't stop me from having a major célfie moment outside.

Steve Madden knows the way to my heart <3.

Matts brother got me this fab infinity scarf for christmas :). (good taste runs in his fam). I paired it with my fave J Brand skinny jeans

This Sincerely, Jules célfie beanie has become a staple in my winter wardrobe. You've probably seen me wear it if you follow our Instagram (if you don't, you totes should -  @pleasantlypetite). To ensure the rest of me stayed warm, I wore one of my faux leather jackets over a long sleeve shirt, gloves, scarf, and quickly ordered a grande scolding hot Starbucks. With law school back in session you'll rarely catch me without a starbs in hand.

Tribal Maxi Skirt: Pop Crazy Inspiration

 Happy Monday peeps!
To start this week off on the right foot, I wanted to share my ubber obsession with this pop star inspired outfit from Pop Crazy. What better way to find the best affordable looks based on the newest trends and styles of famous fashionisitas? You can catch how they re-created this gorge look based on Alessandra Ambrosio here and maybe find a perfect outfit for yourself!

It was my go-to when I needed something dressy but trendy for a night out in the city this weekend (and surprisingly warm enough to venture out in these Chicago winter temps!). The slits of the dress and cropped top were a nice touch in showing some skin, so I wasn't covered head to toe. I paired the outfit with a faux leather jacket and bauble statement necklace for some added flair.
