Invested Denim

To kick off this weekend I'm sharing with you my collab with the lovely Elle of A Splash of Blonde. We'll both be sharing our love for denim vests in our own styles. Two blondes + one denim vest is a dangerous combo.

I decided to style my denim vest in an outfit that I think is perfect as a casual look for transitioning from winter to spring. Although denim can feel industrial and heavy at times, I wanted mine to appear more feminine and soft by pairing it with a loose track pant and strapped wedge heels. Also, it doesn't hurt to have amazing accessories to spice up the neutral color pallet, such as my silver bauble statement necklace and mod circle sunnies (also a purse I bought in Italy that I'm madly in love with). Denim can sometimes be an investment, especially when you're looking for a timeless piece to add to your wardrobe. However, being such a versatile fabric that it is, denim lasts a lifetime when treated well. If you're looking for the perfect piece don't be afraid to splurge!

Make sure you stop by Elle's blog A Splash of Blonde and see how fab she looks in her styled denim vest

Here's to a great (and hopefully warm) weekend ahead!

Radiant Red In NYC

(it was a bit windy)

I wanted to share another one of my looks while I was visiting Matt in NYC! I met him after work for a little happy hour fun before hitting the town for the night. I'm kind of OBSESSED with my new Yumi Kim red tank from Le Dress. If you follow us on instagram (if you don't you should @pleasantlypetite) you probably saw I shared a picture of the clothes I was deciding on a few weeks ago. Well this tank was one of the pieces that made the cut! If you are in Chicago, head to this fabulous boutique in Wicker Park (or place an order on their website). They have an amazing selection of designer apparel and the stylists are super friendly (I basically put on my own one woman fashion show for Sara & Amy while there!). Le Dress has also given me an exclusive DISCOUNT PROMO CODE that you can use on anything you buy on their website (including sale) to get 30% off! Our promo code is pleasantlypetite30. But act fast, this code expires on April 30!

Rack It Up: Customized Sale Alert Site

We're deeming today's post TIP TUEDAY! We know that what we are about to share with you will change your online shopping habits for the better (we know from personal experience). Rack It Up is the amazing fashion sale alert website created by (the lovely) Alexandra Fishlinger and Briana Pashcow. Rack It Up combines an online social community with features that allow its users to track items (with extreme customization) and sale alert options. The site is compatible with 100+ stores including Piperlime, Shop Bop, BaubleBar, C. Wonder, and Revolve Clothing. It's the perfect way to find the looks you crave for less.

We had the pleasure of talking to Ali & Bri to get a little more insight into Rack It Up, its creation, how to best use it, and some advice they have. Check out what they had to say below! (And be sure to check out the Rack It Up blog for our trendsetter feature going up on Thursday March 27 and see whats in our Rack It Up Closet!)

When did you start Rack It Up?
We officially launched Rack It Up in June of 2013, but we had been conceptualizing and developing the idea since November 2011.

How did you come up with the idea to create this site?
The idea came from our frustration with other sale alert websites. Signing into a flash sale at 10am on a Tuesday when you’re working a full time job wasn’t ideal. Also, our inboxes were always filled with sale alerts for items sold out in our size and emails about designer-wide sales often led to impulse purchases. We started thinking that there just had to be a better way to shop for the specific items you want and be able to have those items tracked for discounts. After a few months of brainstorming together and talking to family and friends, we realized that there really was a need in the market for a website that could simplify the online shopping and sale tracking experience. From there, Rack It Up was born.

If you could describe Rack It Up in a sentence or two, what would you say?
Rack It Up is a virtual closet website that combines an online social community with features that allow users to track items with extreme customization and sale alert options. Users can track their favorite items from their favorite online retailers, in their personal size & color preference, for the prices they want!

How does Rack It Up work?
Rack It Up can be used in two different ways. The first way, our users can drag the RackItUp button into their bookmarks bar and ‘rack up’ their favorite items from their beloved online stores. They add each item to their virtual closet in their size, color preference and can enter the price they’re willing to pay. Rack It Up will only send sale alerts when the discounted items in their closet meet their personal criteria. Another way our users can utilize the site is by ‘Browsing the Rack’, to see what other members of the RIU community are racking up. They can re-rack any item that catches their eye in their own personal size and color preference. They can also follow each other’s closets, follow featured bloggers and influencers and can also follow some of their favorite retailers.

What advice would you give to starting your own business?
Our number one piece of advice is to go for it. There really is no time like the present. So, even if you don’t know how to really get started, take it one day at a time and things will start falling into place. No matter how it turns out, the experience you’ll gain by trying will be absolutely invaluable.

What has been your biggest accomplishment?
We are really proud of the brand we have created and since we both came from backgrounds outside of fashion we have really worked hard to create relationships within the fashion community. Whether it's with an online retailer, brand, or a fashion blogger, we take pride in all the partnerships we create.

What's your best piece of style advice?
Don’t get too caught up in the “trend of the moment” and instead dress for yourself. If you like the way it looks and it makes you feel great, that’s all that matters!

We hope you enjoyed this TIP TUESDAY. Now go start racking up your current cravings in to your rack it up closet! Your email & wallet will thank you later.

Xx

Leopard & Stripes

in LOVE with this Balenciaga bag (thanks jods)

As you probably saw on instagram, I was in New York (again) for 10 days visiting my boyfriend Matt :). One day I met up with one my best friends in the city for a girls day adventure while Matt was at work. Besties + Shopaholics + Manhattan = dangerous combo.  Luckily our wallets survived. This is what I wore for our city adventure. The weather couldn't make up its mind, so by the end of the day, I didn't need my jacket anymore. I decided to mix a stripped peplum top with my leopard print slip on sneakers (Katie has the Sam Edelman version of them). Mixing prints and patterns, when done properly, makes for a great look. Don't be afraid to try something new!

Have a great weekend and happy friday!

Black Suede Shoes

So... this post may look easy breezy beautiful cover girl-esq, however it was anything but. At a mere 20 degrees and a 0 windshield, a mesh sweater was not ideal. However, I love this outfit far too much to not show it off! In light of my birthday last week, I was more than spoiled by all of those I am blessed to call near and dear. To show a part of my gratitude, I wanted to show off all of my goodies. My boyfriend, Ryan, has a good ear and listened through the grape vine about my want - correction need - for these 1972 vintage inspired Nike shoes. Not only are they SO comfy, but they're really stylish and versatile for a lot of different looks. I used to be against "boyish" looking shoes, but have since changed my mind as I have found that it can give a girl a little edge with her outfit. I will most likely frequent them for my weekend errands, but I also loved how it dressed this look down a bit by being sporty, making me feel much more casual. I also have been into leather a lot this past winter; However, I am still a little afraid of an all leather pant. Therefore, these leggings were the perfect middle. They give just the right amount of leather down the sides to add some flair. Sometimes, it's nice to dress it down and be comfortable while keeping it fun.

Hope you gave have a great hump day!

Eightysixed

Eight-y-six [ey-tee-six] (verb slang) - to reject; to discard; to dispose of something or someone

As many people can probably relate, being a 20 something comes with its fair share of life changing obstacles thrown our way. We’ve all been there. Love, heart ache, you name it, its all a part of life. But the most important part of these challenges is the life lessons you learn along the way. Best selling author Emily Belden was able to take the challenges she’s faced and turn it into an edgy little Chicago-based memoir. And let us just tell you, her best selling book “Eightysixed: Life Lessons Learned” is amazing and addictive. As you probably saw on our instagram about 2 weeks ago, we recently started reading her book.  We literally read it cover to cover in less than 48 hours. We couldn’t put it down! We probably would have finished it quicker if we didn’t have to take breaks to eat and sleep.

Emily does an excellent job of capturing what its like to be a girl trying to navigate her 20’s in Chicago. It’s as if Bridget Jones were a Chicago foodie with bad dating habits (as Emily herself puts it). Picture a modern day twist on those old fashioned love stories. It will make you laugh, cry, and even do a double take going ‘wait did this actually happen?!’. And the answer to that is yes, yes it did. Emily took her love life, break ups, and blog and turned it into a best selling Women’s Memoir. And I promise you, you NEED to get your hands on a copy (you’ll thank me after).

We asked Emily "What inspired you to turn your life into a memoir?" She said "I started writing 'Eightysixed' long before it was ever Eightysixed. It began as more of a 'Dear Diary' to help me get through a terrible break-up and all the laughable accoutrements that went along with heartbreak. At some point the experience became so outlandish and unbelievable, I realized 'This could be a book!'. So I made it one!"

We also asked "How long did it take for the whole process to be done and the book published?" Emily told us "Since I wrote the story as it went along, the process took about 3 years from when I started to when I stumbled upon my perfect ending. It then took 1.5 months to shop to a publisher. I sold it in May of 2013 and the book became available on shelved February 6th. So, about 4 years, all-in."

Now that you know a little about Emily and her best selling memoir, we have a 30% off promo code just for you! Enter code QF73U when purchasing Emily’s book on Smashwords (www.smashwords.com/books/view/412208). And guess what?! If you purchase her book, email a copy of your receipt to Emily (emilybelden@gmail.com) and she’ll personally send you a signed bookmark as a thank you (she’s the sweetest)! Act fast though, this discount expires in one week on 3/24/14.

And for our Chicago readers, if you love her book as much as we do, Emily has graciously offered to host cocktails at her loft to discuss the book and also drink and hang out with us (and see the infamous penny floor). If this is something you’re interested in please email us at pleasantlypetiteblog@gmail.com so we can work out all the details with you and Emily.

Don’t eightysix Emily’s book before you read it ;). And make sure you follow the amazingly talented and gorgeous Emily on instagram & twitter @emilybelden and become a fan of hers on facebook. Both myself & Katie already are!

Enjoy your week!

Xx
