Five Things Friday

TGIF! I honestly thought today would not come, it has been the slowest week ever but that is probably because I have been so anxious to get out of here and enjoy some west coast weather with family and friends. With that said, a few weeks back, Brittani had shared five things about her and since then some of you have been asking for more on the other person behind the blog, me! So here are five things you may not have known about me to kick start your weekend.

Ps. Since Brittani and I are both in California for weddings this weekend, bear with us and be prepared for lots of sappy Instagrams and tweets about weddings, oceans and palm trees.

I have an older sister who has two little girls who are the lights of my life! Seriously there's no one cuter or more precious in the world, but I'm a little bias.

I come from a huge Sicilian family on my moms side. If you can remember, I was in Italy at the begging of the year (see here ) and was able to visit some of my extended family for the first time. It was incredible to see my heritage and family history and now I know that I have an amazing family over seas that will welcome me with open arms whenever I decide to venture to Europe again.

Ok now I know I've talked about Ryan, my boyfriend, before but for a little back story we have known each other for 6 years and have been dating for a little over 3. We met in high school during our Junior year (our high school was extremely large and it took us 2 years to finally meet there) and have been pretty inseparable ever since. As you may be able to tell, we started dating the summer after our senior year in high school right before college, which some may say is bad timing. After that summer, Ryan was off to Iowa and I was off to Arizona. For some perspective that is approximately 1,116.36 miles, a 22 hour car ride or 3 hour plane ride away (But who's counting) and we would not be able to travel often to see each other. However, despite those odds, we decided to put trust into the relationship and make things work long distance. I am so thankful that we listened to our gut feelings about each other because it was still an amazing college experience for both of us; I sometimes even felt as if I attended both schools. It was also great having such supportive friends and family through the process who respected what we were doing to be with each other. Luckily, we both picked Chicago to live in after graduation and since then things have been humbly mundane. We are both living in the same city and carrying on as usual - normalcy finally. It feels as if there was never any distance between us in the first place, which I appreciate so much. We are, with out a doubt, enjoying each others company after having been apart for so long, and just celebrated our 3 year anniversary this June. Even being so close now, we still appreciate the journey that taught us not to take each other for granted and to have faith in each other.
Gotta love how things work out, right?

As for my 9-5 job goes, I now work in media and radio, but I started my career out in day time television on Chicago's own Windy City Live. It was an amazing experience that really allowed me to fall in love with what I do. I met incredible people in the industry that helped me get to where I am today. I am still so thankful for my first real world work experience that I had there.

You also may or may not know this from our Instagram, but if you're just tuning into the blog today, I have two little white fluff's of a dog, Jasper and Piper, who I honestly couldn't live without. I have a weakness for little dogs who can fit in your purse.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend! Britt and I will be taking a break on Monday due to Labor day, but we will be back at it come Tuesday.

Pleasantly Pinning: Fall Inspiration

Today I wanted to share some pinspiration that I've been using in order to transition from summer to fall. In planning my fall attire, I've totally fallen in love again with big chunky sweaters, textured layering and deep rustic tones. Hopefully you'll gain some inspiration as well!

This top knot is everything.

Have been dying to try a manicure like this (plus that party nail!)

I love how she mixes all of the different textures of fabric as well as mixing gray and brown. Will definitely be trying this look out soon.

Have a very happy Thursday! For even more pins (trust me we have plenty) check out the rest of mine & Brittani's boards here: Pinterest

Prints + Wedges

On this hump day I'm feelin' especially excited for the weekend, since I'll be in California on Friday! My cousin is getting married and I honestly can't wait to get back to the west coast for a little change. In honor of that, I wanted to show off one of my favorite going out outfits. This loose printed top (score from Forever 21!) is great because it is airy yet festive. I also fell in love with these Chinese laundry Magic Moment wedge sandals last weekend and have been wearing them on repeat; they're so comfortable. I hope everyone is getting through the work week and as ready for the weekend as I am!

Dream Day Style Challenge

Hello loves! When asked to participate in Loverly's Dream Day Style Challenge I have to admit I was pretty excited! Even though I am not engaged nor getting married soon, I am definitely one of those girls who have a Pinterest board planning out my dream wedding. We've all thought about it (a little bit at least) whether we want to admit it or not so getting to pretend to plan my dream day was extremely fun. My picture perfect setting I chose was City Glam and here's how I would style myself:

The Dress - I would want something that is sure to turn heads from the second anyone sees me in it! When I saw the Monique Lhuillier Sentimental wedding dress on lover.ly I instantly fell in love! This silk white chantilly lace and embroidered tulle strapless modified trumpet gown with a sweetheart neck was exactly what I could picture myself getting married in. It fits perfectly in my City Glam setting because its chic, has sparkle, but still holds some tradition with its lace detailing.

The Shoes - Every show stopping dress needs fabulous heels to pair with it. I would pair the Badgley Mischka Petal Pump with my dress for a few reasons. One being its classic, timeless and elegant, allowing it to fit perfectly with my city glam setting, and still has some sparkle to make it even more glamorous!

Hair Piece & Veil - Every girl should feel like a princess on her wedding day, especially when you have it in a big city. There's nothing that makes a girl feel more like a princess than a tiara, but instead of actually wearing one I decided to pair the 'Dawson' headpiece from untamed petals with my dress. Since the detailing on my dress and my headpiece are so vibrant I would would pair it with the Minimalist's veil by Preston and Olivia that I found on lover.ly.

Jewelry - For my picture perfect city glam wedding I would keep my jewelry simple. A pair of diamond studs with a halo and simple diamond bracelet would be enough for me. I want to be the one to stand out on my wedding and not be outshine by a ton of bling in my accessories!

And that's my Dream Day City Glam style! I was able to find all of these glam pieces on lover.ly, a bride's digital best friend to help take the stress out of wedding planning. But don't fret if you aren't about to get married, you can sign up and join without being engaged like I did! It's like pinterest but only for all things related to weddings!

What would you wear if you had to plan your dream day today?

Casual Cute Brunch Attire

One of my favorite things to do over the weekends is going to brunch in the city (sunday funday)  There's nothing like sitting outside enjoying mimosas, bloody mary's, good food and great company! Some of the best brunch spots are on the more casual side. When I got to one of those places I love to throw on a flowy skirts, crop top and cute sandals. That way I look cute and put together but still casual at the same time.

P.S. It was super windy when I wore this to brunch and kept having some major Marilyn Monroe moments (as you can tell from the pictures) haha!

Have a great week all!

Five Things Friday

Hellooooo Friday! I thought I'd share some thing I'm looking forward to this weekend while I spend it in the city with my boyfriend (who just moved downtown, yay!). We're trying to hit every last minute summer experience we can before fall comes around and maybe have a little too much planned but here's a sneak peak of what I'll be up to:

Roof top drinks. Ryan and I have a long list of some roof tops we want to hit before summer is officially over and this place is first on our list! (I'm also wondering why it took so long for us to even come here)

The J. Parker

Castaways at North Avenue Beach. Touristy? Yes, but too good to pass up.

Navy Pier fireworks. Bonus: We can see them from Ryan's building! Hassle free.

Lincoln Park Zoo - I will never be too old for this place.

& lastly a Cubs game - This is not definite yet but I am determined to see a game before September. Yes, I am a Cubs fan (North side all the way!)

I hope you all have an amazing weekend! See you again on Monday ;)

Casual Tee + Skort

Hello there babes! I decided to bring back out my skort and share another way to style it. The last time I styled it I dressed it up a bit (that post can be found here), but its such a versatile piece that it can easily be dressed down as well. I got this amazing and comfortable tee from my rad babes at Rad and Refined and could not love it more! I simply tucked it into my skort, threw on some sandals and sunnies and boom my outfit was complete :).
