New Year, New Skincare Routine

For as long as I can remember, I've always taken my skin scare seriously, but never seriously looked for a brand I loved and new would give me the results I wanted for the long term. I am Queen at mixing and matching products and brands to try and achieve a healthy complexion, but have always wanted to have a brand that was completely catered to me and my needs. Upon receiving my Darphin Paris gift, and using it religiously for a week, I can say I believe I've found a brand I can use for years to come.

Tweed Need

Every winter I feel like I need a new jacket. I have started a huge collection, but living in Chicago, it's nice to have a few different options besides my over-kill down puffy jacket. I love belted coats, and although I have my wool Tahari wrap coat (see it here), I couldn't resist passing up this tweed pattern.

Weekend Steals

We're getting down to the wire for holiday shopping, and this weekend doesn't disappoint with the available sales at some of my favorite places. Being an online shopper myself, I definitely plan on taking full advantage of this winter storm that's supposed to hit Chicago today to get my last minute shopping down from the comfort of my couch. Luckily, all of the Brands in this post will get you your purchases and gifts before the Christmas Holiday, if you buy before Sunday. Don't dilly dally as you'll love all they have to offer (for a fraction of the price!).

#Perfect Never with Reebok

For my second collaboration with Reebok and their #NeverPerfect campaign, I'm deciding to get a little more personal. Since the campaign is centered around stopping our obsession with being perfect, I've decided to make a it a personal goal to stop being so hard on myself.  My favorite piece of this outfit are the Mesh Dance Leggings. Which are perfect for running, yoga, kick boxing- all of the above really. This outfit is compiled of great pieces that make you feel your best.

Rainy Day Savers

Now that it's officially fall and the rainy weather has commenced, I am so happy that I am able to outwit the weather with the brilliantly British brand Joules. This is an amazing brand that I am thrilled to be working with through this Fall season. Not only are their boots durable and warm, but also work perfectly with every outfit.

Camel Coat

I had been on the search for the perfect camel colored coat for the longest time and I finally struck gold during the past Nordstrom Anniversary sale. Although Chicago's warm weather stuck around until recently, I tried to wear it as much as possible (it was 65 degrees this day). As a girl who's always cold, it didn't really phase me, but I can't wait to start layering it with sweaters for the colder months ahead.

High Style Work Out with Reebok

Working out is much more fun when you have amazing clothes that inspire you to work harder. These Reebok Never Perfect pieces are versatile and so comfortable, you hardly feel they are there. I used to be into wearing whatever old clothes I had hanging around in my closet and am so happy that workout clothes have taken a step up in the fashion world lately.

Defining your Small Space

When I first moved into my apartment, I knew I wanted to keep it three simple with bright white tones, clean lines and pops of color and greenery. I always felt that your personal space should be a reflection of you but always a mini oasis that kept you calm, cool and collected. Living in a studio limited my furniture intake, however I knew I wanted a multi purpose living room and entertainment center.

Blush Neutrals

Trading in Monday blues for Monday blush today. This color has quickly become my fall favorite and pairs perfectly with other fall hues such as these burgundy leather booties. Because the temps haven't hit too low yet, I love being able to use this layering sweater piece as a tank before I need to actually throw a  jacket on top of it.

Embracing Everyday Moments

In this day and age, we’re always on the go; I can’t remember the last time I really stopped to smell the roses. Since we’re constantly being asked to give 100%, we’re more than likely to burn out. – Something I am guilty of. Lately I’ve been trying to make a point to take a break, in order to really soak in the great everyday moments I seem to miss.

Striped Shirt Dress

The shirt dress just might be my favorite fashion statement ever. It's my go-to for work just as much as it is for happy hour, or girls brunch. Back when Nordstrom was having their annual anniversary sale, I knew I had to grab this Wayf Lace-Up shirt dress before it sold out. The vertical stripes are too perfect for my small frame as they make me appear taller than I actually am (my goal with almost any outfit).

Late Summer Maxi

It's about that time when the heat of the summer simmers down and the cool breeze starts to kick in. It's times like these I drag myself to put away the cutoff shorts and mini dresses and fill my closet with layering pieces and crisp denim. Although short dresses become out of the questions with my tan hanging by a thread, Maxi's are the perfect transitioning piece for warm to cold seasons.

Arm Candy: Unique Women's watch with JORD

I'm someone who never used to wear any jewelry, usually only the simple stud earring or sterling silver ring from time to time. However, as I've gotten older, I've really appreciated the kind of accessory a watch has become for me. When I received my gift of JORD's wood watch, it put me in awe of their craftsmanship, and all of their pieces truly are unique in their own right.

Distressed Overalls

One of my favorite aspects of overalls are the nostalgic vintage feel they have. Fashion has a way of recycling and lately, my childhood 1990's have been showing more in more in recent styles. The white denim distressed look of these overalls are comfortable and casual but edgy at the same time.

Hydrating Hacks with Peach and Lilly

Hot and humid Summer days call for the always dewey hydrated look. However, when you spend as much time outside and in the sun (with the use of sunscreen of course) - skin can still dry out and become dull. Since the start of the Korean beauty craze, I've had my eye out from some products I knew I had to get my hands on. Over the course of two weeks, I've compiled their best hydrating beauty hacks while using their products.

Come Sail Away

Apologies for being a little MIA! I've been taking some time to travel, focus on my new job and take some me time. However I am getting back into the swing of things with weekly posts, so stayed tuned for some great collaborations and content coming up! This past weekend I finally made my way to Florida. Growing up, we always headed to the west coast for family vacations, so I never ventured down to the sunshine state before. Let me start by saying the sun is REAL. I made the mistake of thinking one coat of sunscreen would be enough and quickly learned that the sun is stronger than I'm used to hanging out on Lake Michigan. Despite my currently very red shoulders and nose, I have to say Florida had a lot to offer.

Little Blue Romper

Shoulders are having quit the moment in fashion these days and I am loving the style and fulling embracing the trend, especially in this summer heat. I've been opting to wear the style in shirts or dress, but when I cam across this romper I knew I had to fit it into my wardrobe as well.

Modern Business Casual

What I love most about this day in age in the workplace is how informal formal the attire has become. Long gone (for most people) are the strict formal dress codes in the office, which means having free range to express your style in a more causal way.

Customize your roots

There are only a few things I have no problem splurging on great quality products for: Shoes, skincare, and haircare. So when I found out about *Function of Beauty's customized shampoo and conditioner line, I couldn't wait to try it. At only $26 for a set oz 8oz and $38 for a set of 16 oz - I'd say they're a steal without worrying about a loss of quality.

Back Drop

Now that warm weather has graced us, I plan on living in dresses all Summer long. This Tobi 'Paula' drop back halter dress (all new customers recieve 50% off!) was the perfect outfit to wear on our very first hot day in Chicago. It's made out of 100% cotton and keeps you cool when you're in the sun. It's simple style allowed me to dress it up with studded heels and my straw hat - a few of my favorite accessories for the season.

Flared Overall

With the denim overall style back in full swing, I was waiting to find the perfect fit and pair. When I stopped by Trunk Club a month ago, I mentioned this to my stylist, Monica, and she miraculously found these Flea Market Flare Overalls by Madewell (now on sale!) - it was love at first sight.

Avocado Pesto Pasta

I'm finally kicking off my 'Good Eats' series on the blog and it should be to no surprise that my first recipe involved avocado. I try to incorporate it into every meal if possible and this is no exception. Pesto is one of my favorite pasta sauces and when I had a ripe avocado that I didn't want to go to waste I figured this combo would be lethal, as in I would want to eat every single day and cause an avocado shortage. The entire recipe is below!

Striped Lace Up Dress

Anotha one (for those of you who still watch DJ Khaled's snap chat), this Necessary Clothing laced up dress will be lived in all summer. I love its A-line structure that makes it airy as it flows and moves with you. I also am a sucker for the laced up trend right now and the subtle stripe print of this dress really give it some dimension.

Beauty Product Sample Review

We all love to receive the little samples that we get when purchasing out necessary beauty products, but how many times do you actual take the time to try them out instead of finding them at the bottom of a drawer a month later? Since becoming a Sehpora VIB (thanks to much product obsessions) I've been receiving more and more samples in my bag when I leave the store. I decided to try them out instead of throw them to the way side, and give some feedback on my experience.

Blue Floral

Now that summer weather has officially made an appearance, I had to get at least five new dresses for the occasion. I can already tell that this Aloha Love Mini Dress from Necessary Clothing will be worn to many a brunch this season. It's light weight material and subtle floral print are perfectly balanced for warmer days.

Save or Spend: Spring Wedges

Have you ever come across something you love but know you absolutely can't afford? This happens to me more often than not and I love when I'm able to find something similar that doesn't break the bank. Recently, I feel in love with these Marc Fisher LTD 'Adalyn' Espadrille Wedge Sandals when I came across them browsing online shopping. However, their expensive price tag just wasn't in the cards at the moment.

Clean Slate Bedroom

Lately, I've been on a major kick to do some revamping in my studio apartment. Maybe it's the spring cleaning itch or the fact that I'll have been living here for a year next month (so crazy!) and am ready to switch things up. I've taken my patterned duvet off of my bed that I've had for forever (see it here) because I like the crisp clean look of my white down insert; however, I would love to dress it up.

Framed Face

Although I don't have a necessity for glasses everyday (I wear a prescription that is for prolonged computer use and up close reading), I couldn't resist trying out David Kind's at home glasses try on. When a stylist reached out to me to work with her on finding my perfect frame, fit and color, I was all in! Let me start by saying that their glasses are a great mix of vintage, chic and modern. When browsing their site for my picks, I had a hard time choosing just three pairs for my try on, as they all caught my eye for different reasons.

Striped Green

Finally it's dress & anorak season! Although it's been super rainy around here, it's a welcome change to the wind and cold and I'm especially happy to shed my winter coat. This anorak is a favorite for Fall (see it styled here and here) and spring transitions and I love pairing it with patterns. Because it was warmer this weekend, I threw on one of my favorite striped dresses to offset the army green color.

Weekend Steals

It's a Holiday weekend! And for some, like me, that means yummy Easter treats and spending time with family and loved ones. It also means that stores are having killer sales that you won't want to miss. I've chosen my favorite picks and sales that will be going on this weekend. I hope everyone celebrating has a blessed Easter!

Make a Statement

Statement necklaces used to be a staple of mine in my college years, but I have since made a switch to dainty jewelry for everyday wear. I feel that smaller less prominent jewelry is great for work and casual wear. However, this is not to say I have outlawed my larger jewelry all together; I use them sparingly when I want to make a real statement (pun intended). Whether it be for special occasions or to  just to dress things up a bit, statement necklaces are a great way to take an outfit from blah to wow. This makes these pieces much more special and a treat to wear.

March 21, 2016

Pattern Play

I love mixing patterns that otherwise would be great on their own, but are even better together. This floral kimono has been a favorite of mine since last year, and now that the first day of spring has finally arrived, I felt obligated to wear it. Pairing it with these stripped wicker lace-up sandals makes it a little more fun and I especially love the tassel details.

March 18, 2016

Monochromatic Pastels

When I had the chance to check out Banana Republic's newest arrivals, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. Upon receiving this beautiful petite Raw-Edge Peplum jacket, it was love at first sight. The subtle silver mint tone makes it the perfect pastel to style for Spring. The cropped fit hits me right at the waist (I'm wearing a petite size 4) with the perfect arm length. It's light weight for warmer weather but kept me from feeling cold during this particularly windy day. From up close, the delicate detail on it really gives it great dimension and although I opted for a more casual look here, I could easily dress it up with a skit and some heels.

Fresh Face

In college, I never paid my face much attention, and that meant falling asleep in make-up and not using the right products for my skin type. Fast forward 4 years later, and I am certainly paying for those days. I noticed a change in my completion not too far after and decided I needed to start giving my face a little TLC. My beauty routine is pretty minimal, and I believe you don't need a whole tone of product in order to keep a healthy looking face (at least in your twenties). All of my favorite products are shown above and you can shop them through the links below if you feel they fit your beauty routine or you just need something new to try!

Some of you who have been following me know about DITTO's endless eyewear program, and have even tried and loved it for yourself! Since I have a few fresh faces around here, I'm going to explain exactly how it works.

Wedge Booties and Knits

These Sorel Joan of Arctic Wedge booties have been a staple for me all winter, but what I love most about them is that they really work for any season. Because they are water proof, and April showers bring May flowers, I plan on wearing them all the way through to Summer.

Kate Spade x 21.5" iMac Giveaway

After an amazing weekend celebrating my birthday a bit early (it falls over St. Patricks Day weekend and as any good Chicagoan knows, that holiday deserves a celebration on its own) I've decided to team up with some of my favorite fellow bloggers to give you all a little treat!

March 4, 2016

Chevron Bun Pin

I don't think I've been this excited for a Friday in a while. It may be my early birthday plans I have for this weekend, but I am genuinely ready to take a break from the work week and just breathe. When I was reached out to be apart of My Kitsch's Bun Pin Instagram campaign, I knew I couldn't say no after looking at their chic selection. I had never really thought of using a hair accessory like this, but have to say I am a major fan.

Spring's Top 10

I can't believe Spring is already here. Although, the month of March signifies this season, Chicago is holding onto Winter with a vengeance (currently 20 degrees outside). Even so, because this approaching season means being able to be outside, I have a bucket list of which I want to complete when nice weather finally does come around.

Here are my top 10 Things to do this Spring.

1.
Head to Cindy's Rooftop - It's a fairly new place in the Athletic Association hotel, but I've heard nothing but good thing about this nautical-esq vibe rooftop and bar.

2.
Find a recipe that includes baked goods and Matcha green tea. A friend of mine recently brought Matcha cookies to the office, and they were the perfect amount of refreshing and sweet. I couldn't believe a cookie could actually be refreshing until I tried these.

3.
Buy fresh flowers from the farmers market. There are so many farmer's markets that start to pop up around the city when Spring/Summer hits. A few of the ones I want to try are the Federal Plaza farmers market and the Green City Market in Lincoln Park.

4.
Find my perfect pair of distressed denim in a light wash. Have yet to be able to find a pair that have distressed characteristics that hit my body type in the right places (suggestions welcome!- please leave a comment)

5.
Paint my studio apartment. Because I live in an older building, some of the aesthetic show the wear and tear of time. I would love to add a pop of color or freshen up the vibe.

6.
Make better use of my planner. Things can get away from me and I want to do a better job at organizing things for both my career, blog and personal en devours.

7.
Take advantage of the city's lakefront. When I first moved downtown, I was an avid runner on the trail by the lake and would love to get back into it in these warmer months

8.
Give outdoor yoga a try

9.
Rent a Divvy bike for a day and use it to travel around the city

10.
Try to master new hair styles. I sometimes tend to stick to one or two styles because of time or honestly I'm just too lazy to learn how to do more. I'm kicking this off Friday with a post on how to style a Bun Pin accessory from My Kitsch! Follow me on Instagram @pleasantlypetite to see two styled looks.

Oversized Cardigan Vest

Graphic tees are my go to casual look, so when I was browsing Thredup.com and saw this Karl Lagerfeld inspired graphic, I knew I had to build an outfit around it. Thred Up is a great way to find styles for less - a kind of a thrifting for the internet, if you will. I loved being able to look at old styles and think of ways of how to style them for today.

DIY Bar Table

When I moved into my first apartment, I had my heart set on finding the perfect bar cart. However, after months of searching( and big let downs because due to expensive prices) I eventually gave up. That was when my Mom, queen of DIY projects, mentioned I still had this mirrored table from my old bedroom and that I could dress it up for whatever use I wanted. Before, it had been my make-up vanity, however with a little structuring from an acrylic serving tray, I transformed it into the bar table I had always wanted. Shout out to Mom's who don't get enough credit for their wisdom!

Laced-up Bodysuit

At first, I was pretty hesitant about this whole lace up trend I'm seeing around in fashion lately. Because this style doesn't allow for a bra and needs to be positioned just right to look great you need the style to be of well made material. I've tried shirt versions, but found that they bunched or didn't stay closed well. However, this laced-up bodysuit option really gave me the look I wanted and stayed in place better with being of tighter elasticity.

February 22, 2016

Denim on Denim

If you can believe it, I wore this outfit on Saturday and wasn't even cold...it actually reached about 60 degrees in Chicago this weekend and I think I about lost it with excitement. I've always been a big fan of the "Canadian tuxedo" (see it styled another way here) and I've been waiting to bust out this denim combo until the Spring, but was able to wear it early!

February 18, 2016

Denim and Stripes

Since I've been back from my trip, everyone's been telling me how I missed our one week of harsh winter weather, what good timing! However being in Arizona made me truly miss the summer temps and I had an amazing time getting some RnR and taking a break from our wishy-washy midwestern winter. I loved being able to wear dresses again and this stripped little number is one of my favorites for spring.

February 16, 2016

Show Me your Mumu Desert Vibes

When Show Me Your Mumu had a sale a week back, I couldn't resist getting my hands on a few of my favorite dresses of theirs. I have had my eye on the La Quinta pattern for some time (still currently on sale!) and finally was able to pull the trigger on it! It was perfect timing for my trip to Arizona.

Blog Photo Shoot Necessities

I hope you all had a great Valentines day weekend with your loved ones! I'm back from my vacation break and will be updating you all on my trip this week! Lately, I've been receiving a lot of questions about how I prep for a blog shoot, so today's post is all about my necessities for what I use to get ready and pack to take with me for blog photo shooting days.

February 11, 2016

Checkered Black & White

Since it was unseasonably warm right up until I left on vacation this week, I couldn't resist getting all dressed up without the need of a jacket to cover it all up! This checkered flannel is great for dressing up or down and the added vest gave it some dimension. I'm also tending to stay away from big statement pieces lately, however this silver gem really took this outfit up a notch and complimented the white and black nicely.

Luggage Luxuries

To say that I am excited to get out of Chicago right before a cold spell starts is an understatement. I haven't had a pedicure in so long and I have to say my toes are extremely anxious to make an appearance in some dearly missed sandals this week. I am heading to Arizona to visit some family and the weather forecast is showing nothing but sun!
